Lifespan of Electric Cars

The lifespan of electric cars is matching or exceeding that of the internal combustion engine cars (normal gas cars). Four out of five (4/5) of the cars tested lasted 130,000-150,000 miles while all of them passed 100,000 miles (electric cars). This sounds great; getting a vehicle that runs on electricity rather than gas, especially after the high gas prices, that will last as long as or longer than gas cars, and costs somewhere near the same as gas cars. Sounds like a great deal to me.

Speed vs. Fuel Efficiency

Most cars demonstrate their best fuel economy between 25 mph through 55 mph, and most have better fuel economy at 65 mph rather than 45 mph. At 65 mph, the wind resistance becomes great enough so the fuel efficiency goes down in a car. Slowing from 70 mph to 55 mph may give 25% more mpg.

Dollar per Mile, Gas Cars vs. Electric Cars

The average dollars/gallon for gas cars is around $0.09/mile in the United States. I am pretty sure this is right, not completely but mostly, the cost for electric cars is about $0.03/mile. If you need to be completely certain, than you may search for it yourself, or take a chance and estimate with my numbers.

Air Conditioning

You may not think so, but running the a/c or heat while you're driving will reduce your fuel economy. This might not sound bad, but it actually is bad (I got confused, thinking it was fuel used). Using the a/c or other electrical things on the highest setting will decrease your fuel economy by 5%-25%.

This bike (I would retype the name but it is extremely long and hard to type) gets about 96 MPG. This seems extremely high. By the looks of it, it seems to be a military bike. It's nice to think the military is thinking of the environment while they shoot others.

Idea of Fuel Efficient Car and Solar Cars

I had a great idea for a fuel efficient car and to help lower obesity...we could add pedals to all cars and people could use them and recharge the cars. That way the people would lose weight and the cars would get more energy. Just an idea. But just in case this isn't a legitimate blog...Solar cars depend on PV cells to convert sunlight into electricity. In fact, 51% of sunlight actually enters the Earth's atmosphere. Unlike solar thermal energy which converts solar energy to heat for either household purposes, industrial purposes or to be converted to electricity, PV cells directly convert sunlight into electricity. When sunlight (photons) strike PV cells, they excite electrons and allow them to flow, creating an electrical current. PV cells are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon and alloys of indium, gallium and nitrogen. Silicon is the most common material used and has an efficiency rate of 15-20%.

Electric Motorcycles

Some motorcycles, called the Zero Motorcycles, are electric. They use less than 1/8 of the CO2 pollution per mile than gas powered motorcycles. They also produce 1/100 of the smog causing nitrous oxides.

Motorcycles

Who would have guessed motorcycles get 35-40 MPG? This is what the average mid-size motorcycle in the United States gets. I'm not sure if this is completely credible, but it sounds quite fuel efficient, so I am putting it on my blog just because. Compared to the average passenger car, this is close to 1.5-2 times as much. The website states the average passenger car gets about 21.51 MPG, way lower than the motorcycle. This doesn't sound right to me, but I'm not one to argue.

CAFE

CAFE stands for Corporate Average Fuel Economy;their standards for average fuel economy in 2010 is: Passenger cars: 27.5 MPG; light trucks, combined: 23.5 MPG; 2011: Passenger cars: 30.2 MPG; light trucks, combined: 24.1 MPG.

Toyota Prius

The Toyota Prius has a starting price of under $23,000, according to the Toyota website. This is a great price, considering this car gets 51 MPG in the city and 48 MPG on the highway. If you're thinking of buying a new car, but don't have a big budget to work with, then maybe consider getting a small loan if you need to to buy this car, because with that much gas MPG, it will pay you back in the long run.

Electric Cars

Electric cars may seem extremely fuel efficient, but the way we create that electricity isn't completely clean. 49.7% of electricity is made from burning coal. However, electric cars are still much more fuel efficient than gas powered cars. Hopefully electric power will be made much more clean, with an amount of coal being used down to 25% or less.

Estimated Average MPG United States

The average United States MPG was about 17.1; the most fuel efficient small truck in 2009 was the Ford Ranger 2WD getting 21MPG in the city and 26MPG on the highway. This is little over the average MPG for the United States, making trucks generally less fuel efficient. This is very obvious, but it's the truth.

New Smart Cars

Mercedes Benz is coming out with or has already come out with the 2010 Fortwo smart car. I am not sure whether it is out yet or not because I mostly just skimmed the information from the links, not went to them. I don't want to get a virus from a site. Sorry I got off topic there. This car gets either 36 or 41 MPG. Again, sorry for being vague; this is for the same reason.

Least Fuel Efficient Cars

The least fuel efficient car in the United States in 2009 was the Lambourghini Murcielago manual, Lambourghini Murcielago Roadster manual getting 13 mpg in the city and 8 mpg on the highway. Woah, that's bad.

Most Fuel Efficient Car

The most fuel efficient car in 2007 in the United States was the Toyota Prius, getting 60 mpg when driving in the city and about 51 mpg on the highway. This was a long time ago, before the acceleration accidents, but that is a lot of mpg.

Hypermiling

I was searching for spanish fuel consumption information, but eventually I gave up and looked up things for worldwide fuel consumption. I came across an interesting title: hypermiling. This means to make every drop of gasoline count monetarily. Some of these techniques that are legal include going at a certain speed, staying focused, and determining the shortest or least trafficked route before you leave. Some illegal ones are turning off the car when at a good acceleration or turning off the engine when at maximum speed. Also, I changed my language in blogger to spanish (espanol).

Average fuel efficiency

I have been looking for the average fuel efficiency of cars from 2009. I haven't been able to find it, only finding the fuel efficiency for individual car types. There are too many for me to list, but my estimation would be around 25-30 mpg.

Fuel efficient cars

This is my first blog about fuel efficient cars. There is some variety among these, but there are 3 types that are the biggest types: 1. Cars with a high MPG (miles per gallon), often known as fuel efficiency or gas mileage; 2. There are electric cars, running completely on electricity; a name for some of these are smart cars; 3. There are hybrid cars, a mix between gas cars and electric cars; I believe they use gas to accelerate as they turn on and to turn on.

Basketball

Yesterday, the boys freshman and Varsity basketball teams for CHS beat the Union Titans. I don't know the scores. However, the JV team lost badly to Union. I heard they lost by 40-50 points.

Wrestling

Today is the final match of the regular wrestling season. This Saturday, there is a JV tournament. Next week, districts start. Thanks for following my blog and reading about the wrestling season!

Wrestling

The Camas Papermakers wrestling team is about to have their final match on Thursday. Then, there is a tournament on Saturday. Afterwards, next week, there is the starting of Districts.

Wrestling and Basketball

The Camas High School Wrestling team won yesterday. I don't have the score, but I know they won. The varsity boys Basketball team lost though, 66-56 or 66-50. There is a girls Basketball game today against Prairie High School. Tomorrow, Saturday, there is a varsity Wrestling tournament.

Today, Thursday, January 21, 2010, there is a wrestling match with CHS wrestlers at Prairie High School. Wish our wrestlers luck!

Baseball

The other day my little brother signed up to join his previous baseball team. Everything went alright, except for the fact that some people have been using the batting cages and gym that his team had been using so that they can get better. This leaves minimal practices not only for the team, but for the whole league who planned on using those for practices.

Basketball

Yesterday, at the varsity basketball game, there was a fight and somebody jumped down onto one of the hoops and ran out into the parking lot. It was likely gang related.

Wrestling Tournament

Tomorrow, there is a clark county wrestling tournament. There will be 1 person going per weight except for 4 weights where we will be taking 2. I do not know the weights of those wrestlers.

Lacrosse

Currently in P.E., we are learning about the sport lacrosse. In my opinion, it's very fun.

Also, the wrestling team is going to Hudsons Bay for a wrestling match.

Swimming

Swimming is a good sport. It's not a very big high school sport, but it's in the summer olympics. The previous winner was Michael Phelps, a United States swimmer.

Surfboarding

Surfboarding sounds like something fun to do. I've never surfed before, but I have snowboarded, and it's a lot of fun. They seem very similar. There definately has to be a chance to surfboard in the NorthWest sometime, like during the summer. It gets at least 80 degrees in the summer most of the time.

Baseball

The baseball season is almost here. I guess it's spring sport season, but I like to think of it as baseball season because baseball is my favorite sport. The picture included in this post is Randy Johnson when he still pitched for the Seattle Mariners. He is retiring very soon.

Wrestling

I'm currently in wrestling, but I want to drop out. It's not what it used to be for me. I just don't like it anymore.
